Management

David Foster

President

David Foster is Founder and President of Foster Remodeling Solutions, Inc. a design-and-build remodeling company in Northern Virginia. Under his innovative leadership, FRS has grown on average 10% each year business since its inception in 1983 as Foster Home Improvement, Inc.

Several of Foster’s ideas stand out among the industry. Early on, Foster recognized a need for software specific to the industry and, in 1995, began developing a custom software program. In 2000, he teamed with a group of software developers to incorporate ImproveBuild LLC. Their goal was to develop and provide remodeling-specific management software to the industry. This collaboration resulted in creation of the ImproveBuild Remodeler’s Business Solution (RBS) software. Foster Remodeling Solutions now uses ImproveBuild RBS in its own operations. Since its release in August 2002, many remodelers around the country have followed suit. Foster served as Co-Founder and Managing Partner of ImproveBuild, LLC. until April 2009. www.improvebuild.com

On numerous occasions, the remodeling industry has recognized Foster’s achievements. In 1996-2009 Qualified Remodeler Magazine named Foster Remodeling Solutions one of the top 500 remodelers in the United States. In May 1998, Foster Remodeling Solutions received National Recognition for Teamwork in Remodeling Magazine’s Big 50. Other media profiled Foster’s unique operations systems and successful performance.

Early in his career, Foster studied construction management and sales. In 1992, his additional coursework resulted in receipt of the Certified Remodeler designation from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. In addition, Foster has studied the use of personality profiling to select employees and has attended many industry-specific educational seminars and trade shows.

As part of his continuing education and assistance to the remodeling industry, Foster participates regularly in case studies on other remodeling companies throughout the country. In addition, he occasionally speaks to remodelers and suppliers at the remodelers conferences, including the Remodelers Leadership Conference. Since 2000, he has served as a business consultant to other remodelers throughout the United States.

Foster’s leadership extends beyond the company into his community. In 2000, the Foundation for Applied Technical Education, Inc., a partner in the Fairfax County Public Schools construction technologies training program, appointed Foster to its Board of Directors. Chris Arnold

Chris Arnold

VP of Business Development

Chris Arnold has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry and has been a member of the Foster Remodeling Solutions team since 2004. He studied Architectural Drafting in High School and College. Chris started his career in the remodeling industry as a draftsman creating working drawings, estimating projects and obtaining permits. Additionally, he spent time in the field as a carpenter apprentice where he gained valuable hands on experience. Chris spent the next 9 years with a kitchen cabinet distributor as a kitchen designer, outside salesman and branch manager. During this time, he assisted the company with its transition from a wholesaler to a retailer as well as assisting in the establishment of 3 new showrooms in the Mid-Atlantic region. In 2000, Chris went to work for an Insurance Restoration contractor as an estimator and general manager opening new offices in DC and Northern Virginia. Attention to detail and a strong work ethic have earned Chris his position as a member of the Foster Remodeling Solutions management team along with an ownership interest in the company. He is an award-winning designer earning the 2014 Master Design Award for a basement remodel. He specializes in Kitchens & Baths all the way to Additions, 2nd Story Additions & Garages- walking clients through the whole process of a remodel. Chris is married and has one son. He is active in his sons Boy Scout Troop as an Assistant Scout Master and enjoys spending time in the outdoors. In addition, he is an Audiophile and a fan of live music.

Lee Caslavka

VP of Production

As Production Manager, Lee brings more than 30 years of Home Improvement and Construction experience to the Design Build and Home Maintenance Division at Foster Remodeling Solutions. As a former business owner he understands that success starts with effective leadership, a solid work ethic, keeping schedules, attention to detail, customer relations and team work. Lee welcomes the challenge of keeping the Foster production team on time in budget with a happy client every time.

Community involvement has always been an important part of Lee’s life as he has been active in coaching youth athletics for more than 20 years and has led Rebuilding Together Projects through his Church. Lee and his wife have been married for 30 years. They reside in Prince William County along with their four sons.

Office and Administration

Teresa Harris

Office Manager

Originally from Florida’s Gulf Coast, Teresa joins Foster Remodeling Solutions as our Office Manager. She specializes in office management as well as Human Resources. Her long history of administrative support, executive assistant, and HR roles allows her to bring a great deal of varied skills and knowledge to the FRS Team. Teresa values professionalism while building trust with customers and the company.

Providing stellar customer service is very important for her as she enjoys building lasting relationships with clients and co-workers. Her favorite customer service tactic is to deliver what the client needs, plus one!

Out of the office, Teresa is a semi-professional flutist who performs with The McLean Symphony, The Woodbridge Flute Choir, and in pit orchestras for musical theaters within the DMV area. In addition to her passion for music Teresa loves to volunteer for local animal shelters and advocate for animal adoption and misunderstood dog types. Her advocacy efforts aim to inform the public of the importance of adopting animals, and that every dog is an individual regardless of breed or its past.

Teresa also enjoys traveling, live music, thrift store shopping, vintage styles and clothing, and crafting. Her recent interest into crocheting has filled her home with yarn, much to the amusement of her two cats, Mojo & Toby. She is also the proud mom of four dogs: Abbey, Ben, Bobby, and Zaney Laney.

Ross Mansfield

Ross Mansfield

Accountant

Ross was born and raised in Stafford, VA. He graduated from Longwood College in May 1999 with a BS in Business Administration with a Concentration in Accounting. After working in the public accounting world for six years, Ross has made the switch to the private sector, joining the Foster team as Accountant in July 2005.

Julia Wolfgang

Design Consultant

Julia received her Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from the University of Maryland in College Park.  Her creativity was sparked at an early age coming from a family of furniture makers and home builders. With over 25 years of experience in the interior design industry encompassing residential and commercial design installations, she brings her seasoned skills to every project undertaken.  Julia enjoys collaborating with clients to reimagine and create the spaces of their dreams while incorporating their personal aesthetics and paying close attention to details and function.  Whether she’s reorganizing a space for improved function and enjoyment or selecting finishes that bring a room to life, she strives to inspire and design interiors that exceeds the client’s expectations.

As a previous business owner of a successful high-end design and manufacturing company, she has also completed commissioned design projects for companies such as Thomasville Furniture, The Limited Brand Company and a nationally recognized fabric retailer.

Julia resides in Alexandria, tries her hand at painting, and loves to shower her special needs rescue cat Popeye with affection.

Cara Wank

Design Consultant

Cara received her bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from West Virginia University and spent time studying art and design at the Lorenzo de’ Medici Institute in Florence, Italy. With over a decade of residential design experience, Cara has gained the skill sets needed to accompany her natural sense for space planning and understands communication with clients is key to determine their lifestyle comfort and functionality they desire of their remodel project. It is her passion that will help her clients create a home that they will cherish and enjoy for many years to come.

In her free time, Cara enjoys traveling, eating good food, and spending time outdoors with her two young and energetic boys, wonderful husband, and two pugs, Mushroom and Panda.

Rachel De For

Design Consultant

Rachel De For received her Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2002 and a Certificate of Interior Design from New York Institute of Art & Design in 2020. She spent a decade working in commercial construction before leaving to raise her three children and follow her husband (US Navy) around the world, with stops in Germany and Japan. After returning from Japan, she decided to give construction another try, this time going to work for a local residential construction company. Since 2015, she has worked in the residential interior design and construction world, first as a project manager for a kitchen and bath design firm and a residential general contractor before coming to Foster Remodeling Solutions in 2020. Rachel brings a wide variety of knowledge to the table: construction practices, project management, a strong sense of organization and a drive to provide the best construction experience possible to Foster Remodeling Solution’s clientele. She can help you in any area of your home, from additions and sunrooms, to kitchens and bathrooms. She also ran her own home-organizing business in tandem with her full-time jobs, helping her clients declutter and organize their spaces—she can help you prepare for renovation utilizing these skills as well as her natural ability to craft a well-thought out plan for utility and space in your renovation, bringing fantastic function and peace to the home.

Rachel currently resides in Burke, VA with her husband, three children (16, 15 and 11) and their two cats, Rhett and Newt. She enjoys traveling with recent trips to Croatia, Slovenia and more “locally”, several trips to beautiful Kaua’i, a favorite destination. She is enjoying homeownership again after many years of living in base housing or renting homes. Since purchasing their home almost three years ago, she has renovated three bathrooms, a laundry room, added a deck, screened porch and paver patio, added and improved landscaping and is about to take on cabinet refacing and a refresh in her own kitchen!  She loves to read and write (see links to her blog posts below), ride her stationary bike around the world and spend time with her family.

What Rachel is currently working on: A major home renovation and addition in Falls Church, a master bath/powder room duo in Manassas, a powder room in Alexandria and a home theater with stadium seating in Manassas!

Dianne Marciano

Design Consultant

Dianne received her bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2017. While attending school she gained experience and has spent 8 years in residential design. During that time, she has worked one on one with various clients to transform their house into a home. She started by gaining the client‘s trust by listening to their needs/wants and making sure no one got left behind including the fur babies. She walks the clients through every step of the process, recommending what best fits the client.

She enjoys meeting new clients and designing comfortable, functional, unique spaces that represent the client’s lifestyle. She will walk you through every step of the process and will make sure that by the time the remodeling process is complete, you are excited as much as she is to see the big reveal!

Dianne currently resides in Woodbridge, VA with her husband and their silky cocker Charlie. She enjoys traveling around the world, meeting new people, and learning about their culture. She enjoys playing indoor volleyball as well as spending time with the family.

Joshua Britton

Architectural Designer

Joshua is an Architectural Designer/Drafter and received a Degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design From ITT tech in Norfolk, VA. Joshua has over 20 years of cumulative experience designing home plans for a custom builder in Colonial Williamsburg, VA, and drafting plans for an Architectural Firm in Newport News, VA focusing on Traditional Neighborhood Developments. He works with all the latest CAD software to show clients their final layout in 3D. Joshua is married with two boys and is very involved/coaching in local area Boy scouts & Sport leagues. He enjoys taking his family to National Parks for outdoor hiking & sightseeing.

Paul Robinson

Estimator and Purchasing Manager

Paul has been involved in residential construction for nearly 20 years – 15 of those have been spent here in the Northern Virginia area.  He has managed projects ranging from Kitchen & Baths up to full custom home construction. He uses all of that experience to work with Design Consultants in preparing a job cost budget for your project.

Paul spends his private time helping to raise his young daughter.  That involves coaching and keeping her active and focused on school & religion.

Maria Lynard

Production Coordinator

Maria started with Foster Remodeling Solutions in 2016 as our Office Manager. Her strong work ethic and organizational skills got her a promotion to Production Coordinator. Maria has an extensive background in office management and customer service. In her new role, she will support the production department with schedules, warranty inquires/replacements, Generac generators, final walkthrough binders, product orders and much more. She also works with all of our vendors to keep our materials and pricing up to date. In addition, Maria holds an Associates Degree in Business Management, a Certificate in Accounting and she is a Virginia Notary Public. She also holds a Virginia Real Estate License.

Her priority is providing the highest level of support to the Foster team and clients. Her passion is to always have a smile on her face, support, contribute and make a difference. And we know from her years of employment with us, that this is always the case!!

Maria loves to grab an iced coffee from Starbucks and has a love for animals. She enjoys spending time by the river or beach outdoors in her spare time. She resides in Stafford with her Norwegian forest cat and is always eager to learn more about construction and remodeling.

Jack was referred to David Foster by one of our trusted sub-contractors and has been with Foster Remodeling since 1993. With his exceptional carpentry skills, loyalty and a strong work ethic Jack has earned his position as a member of the management team along with an ownership interest in the company. He is a Certified Lead Carpenter through NARI and holds and EPA Certified Renovator designation. The weekends are intended for spending time with his family and occasionally he enjoys his hobbies of golf, hiking and biking.

Mike Bormann

Lead Carpenter

Mike has 32 years of experience in the construction and residential remodeling business. He has been satisfying our Foster clients with his outstanding workmanship since 1996. He is dedicated to successfully completing each project on time and keeping our clients within their budget. On the weekends he enjoys all outdoor nature related activities; especially hiking and kayaking.

Bill brings 32 years construction experience with him and has been with Foster Remodeling since 2010. He is a certified Journeyman. Bill was born and raised in Alexandria. VA and now resides in Woodbridge VA. During his free time, he enjoys playing music and riding his Harley Davidson.

Lead Carpenter

Rich was born and raised in Northern Virginia. He has been a Lead Carpenter and Project Manager and has 40 years of remodeling and carpentry experience. His areas of expertise include cabinetry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and masonry. Rich is married and has 1 daughter, 2 step-sons and 3 grandsons. He also rescued a 100lb hound and a Great Dane from the Fairfax County Animal Shelter. In his free time Rich stays busy enjoying archery, boxing, dog-walking, beekeeping and rock climbing.

Jonathan Olguin

Kitchen and Bath Specialist

Jonathan was born and raised in Santiago, Chile, but currently lives in Alexandria, VA. Jonathan is an artist at heart and went to art school in Chile before enrolling in the Architecture program at NVCC. He has been in the remodeling business for 15 years and in the construction field most of his life. He comes from a family of tradesman with specialties in painting and wall finishing. Jonathan is married with two sons. He also has 2 parakeets and a cat. In his spare time Jonathan loves to draw and paint, he also teaches painting classes. He plays soccer and enjoys hanging out with his family.

John Davis

Home Improvement Lead Carpenter

John Davis comes to Foster Remodeling Solutions eager to learn as much as he can about the residential remodeling construction field and work towards getting his certification. John is now EPA Lead Certified. He has spent the last 8 years being a land surveyor and is looking forward to his new profession. During his free time John enjoys spending time with his wife Lindsay and their 2 kids Jackson and Josie. He also enjoys baseball, playing softball and is very involved with his church.

Jairo Hidalgo

Jairo was born and raised in Lima, Peru but moved to the US in 1999 and currently lives in Woodbridge, VA. Jairo comes to Foster Remodeling with 18 years of experience in residential remodeling. He is skilled in cabinetry, millwork, trim, plumbing and drywall. In his spare time Jairo loves spending time with his wife, Katrina, his beautiful daughter Isabella and their dog.

Marvin Chinchilla

Carpenter

Marvin was born in El Salvador, but raised in Woodbridge, VA. He has over 10 years of carpentry experience along with experience in concrete, drywall repair, deck building, fencing and water proofing. Marvin comes to Foster Remodeling with a willingness to learn new things. In his spare time, Marvin spends time with his 4 kids, 3 step kids and 3 dogs. He also enjoys fishing, hunting, camping, hiking and eating. Marvin is a hard worker and promises to do a great job on your next project.

Griffin McDonald

Griffin comes to Foster Remodeling with the desire to learn about the Remodeling industry. He was born in Washington D.C. and now lives in Alexandria. He recently graduated from Longwood University with a Bachelor of Arts degree with focus on Supply Chain Management. He is starting out with Foster as a Carpenter Apprentice so he can learn from the bottom and work his way up as he learns about the business. Griffin enjoys sports, hiking and working out. His favorite movie is “It’s a Wonderful Life” and his favorite candy bar is Kit Kat.

Luis Canales

Luis comes to Foster Remodeling with over 20 years of remodeling experience. He was born in Peru, but now lives in Springfield, VA. Luis specializes in trim, cabinetry, framing, drywall finishing and ceramic tile. Luis is married and has 4 kids. In his free time he enjoys playing soccer.

Juan Fennell

Carpenter Apprentice

Juan was born in Medellin, Colombia, but grew up in Fairfax, VA. He has experience in plumbing, sales and exterior remodeling. He has worked as demolition specialist including removal of lead paint, asbestos and hazardous materials. He also has experience in kitchen and bathroom remodeling. In his spare time Juan loves to spend time with his daughter and he loves doing anything outdoors. He also enjoys fixing up his parents 70 year old home. Juan is excited to be part of the Foster team and he is looking forward to learning and getting opportunities to grow.

Doug Dinsmore

Master Electrician

Doug brings 10 years of experience as an electrician to Foster. Doug is a native Northern Virginian. He was born and raised in Stafford, VA. He attended school at Spotsylvania Vocational school and has worked as a helper, a service tech and a Lead electrician. Doug was a licenced Journeyman Electrician and in 2015 he became a Licensed Master Electrician. Doug currently lives in Stafford. He enjoys soccer, four-wheeling, drag racing and spending time with his family.

Cristian Vargas

Electrician

Cristian comes to Foster Remodeling with 9 years of experience in the Electrical field. He attended school at Penn Foster and Ace Technical Institute. He was born in Puerto Madryn, Argentina and moved to Virginia when he was 14 years old. He currently lives in Woodbridge. In his spare time, Cristian plays soccer twice and week and enjoys fishing in the summer.
