Foster Remodeling Solutions is celebrating 35 years of business!
Start of Foster Home Improvement
In April of 1983, David Foster started Foster Home Improvement in his parents house. He started with a computer and his mom’s dining room table.
Foster’s First Office
By February 1987, David was 23 years old and had purchased his own home. His first official office was in his basement. At this time David had 3 employees including himself.
Foster’s First Trucks
David has always had work trucks but in 1987 these are the ones he worked from. He built things in his driveway out of the back of the van and then delivered them to his customers.
Foster Purchases Heavy Equipment
In 1989, David rented his first warehouse/office space off Terminal Road in Lorton. At this time he had a small office, a warehouse to store tools and a small showroom. He had grown to 7 employees and his Mom was working as his receptionist. He also purchased his first Bobcat that year. This meant he could do larger jobs with more difficult tasks.
Foster Builds New Office
In 1991 David purchased his first condo unit at his current location on Telegraph Square Drive in Lorton. He built out the empty condo into an office with warehouse in the back and a small showroom in front.
FHI Hired Marco and Jack
1993 was a great year at Foster Home Improvement because David hired Marco Rebolledo and Jack Rodgers who are both still employed at Foster today! (Jack still wants to strangle Marco!)
Foster’s First Home and Remodeling Show
In 1995 Foster Home Improvement did our first Home and Remodeling Show at the Dulles Expo Center. Our carpenters built our home show booth and worked the show.
Foster Expands Office/Warehouse
In 1995 David was able to purchase the condo next door to the one he already had. He expanded the office, showroom and warehouse.
Foster Receives Award from Remodeling Magazine
In 1998, Foster Home Improvement received the Teamwork Award from Remodeling Magazine and featured the business in their magazine.
More Trucks, More Employees, More Work
In 2000, David was able to purchase more trucks and hire more employees. He started doing larger projects and with more employees and more trucks, he could do more projects at once.
David Creates Remodeling Software
David Foster has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to technology. This is what keeps him ahead in business. He had a pager, a car-phone-in-a-bag and was always looking for the latest software for the business. Unable to find a software that worked for remodelers, he created his own. With the help of a programmer David and his partner developed a software for remodelers to use. He sold it to many remodeling companies across the US. He sold the company in 2008.
Foster Builds Playhouses for Kids
In 2000, Foster decided the best way to test out new carpenters, was to have them build things. So, they gave them plans for a playhouse. Then Foster would donate the playhouses to local schools.
FHI to FRS
In 2002, Foster Home Improvement became Foster Remodeling Solutions! We felt that our name Foster Home Improvement was too limiting and did not convey that we were more than just a Home Improvement company. In order for us to grow our business and attract more comprehensive home remodeling projects, we changed our name to Foster Remodeling Solutions.
David Foster Receives NARI Certified Remodeler Designation
In 2003, David Foster received his NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry), Certified Remodeler Designation.
Foster Joins the FATE Board
In 2006, David Foster became a member of the FATE board in Fairfax County. (Foundation for Applied Technical Education). He served on this board for several years. He is now a lifetime honorary board member. The FATE program is a comprehensive educational program that would develop “in-demand” vocational skills for participating high school students. In addition, an entrepreneurial component was integrated to better prepare students for a successful transition into the workplace. http://www.fatefacts.org/
Another Showroom Update
In 2007, Foster updated and expanded the showroom once again, creating a space for customers to walk through and see many products.
Foster celebrates 25 years
In 2008, Foster celebrated 25 years. The employees gave David a plaque and there was a party to celebrate years of hard work.
Foster Partners with @Home Realty
In 2012, Foster Remodeling Solutions opened a second location in Alexandria. Foster partnered with @Home a real estate company. We built out a design center at this location. When someone was planning to buy a house, but wanted to make a few changes, they could use our design center to choose their products.
Foster Wins Master Design Award
In 2014, one of Foster Remodeling Solutions designs was chosen for the Master Design Award. This award recognizes remodelers, architects, builders, kitchen and bath specialists and other professionals for outstanding project design and construction.
Foster Wins Chrysalis Award
In 2015, Foster Remodeling Solutions was awarded the Chrysalis Award. The Chrysalis Award honors the nation’s finest remodeling projects that reflect the professional excellence of the residential and commercial remodeling industry.
Foster Remodels Showroom
In 2016, Foster purchased a 3rd condo unit at the Telegraph Square Drive location and was able to remodel the space and expand his office and warehouse space.
Foster Opens Design and Selection Showroom
In 2017 Foster unveils it’s newly remodeled Design and Selection Showroom.
Foster Wins Service Excellence Award
In February 2018, Foster Remodeling Solutions was presented with the first ever NARI/Guild Quality Service Excellence Award. Foster Remodeling Solutions is recognized as a top customer service leader within the remodeling industry by GuildQuality and NARI Metro DC.
